Did you see the headlines yesterday?
“Want to live longer? Think positive thoughts”
This is good news and bad news…and good news.
An exciting new study released this week proves something
you probably already know – that optimism is good for the
heart and for living a longer life (not to mention for
having more fun along the way!).
While previous studies have suggested that optimism
boosts overall health, this study focused on heart health.
The most optimistic men (64 to 84) in a Dutch study had a
roughly 50% lower risk of cardiovascular death over a
15 year period.
Isn’t that amazing! A 50% difference!
You see, the good news is that positive thinking and
optimistic beliefs can have a dramatic effect on our health
and quality of your life.
Now, you may be wondering what the bad news is. Isn’t
this all good? What’s the problem?
Part of the problem is, this means the reverse is true.
Negative thinking can have an equally dramatic, but
negative, effect on your health. And that’s a scary thought!
So let me ask you, How are your thoughts?
Negative thinking - these brain toxins - are everywhere!
Maybe even as close as your own head!
These thoughts often creep in without
you even being conscious of them. If your mind is anything
like mine, there are a lot of negative, uncontrolled thoughts
running around in it all too often. (Let me give you a hint:
They’re often very quiet and masquerade as “The Truth”
from our parents, from society, maybe from our spouse
or friends.)
And to make matters worse, even when you are
thinking positive, healthy thoughts, it is hard to get away
from the negative thinking and comments from
friends and family and television.
Last week, for example, I heard someone younger than
me say, “Well, you know, at my age it just gets harder and
harder ….” (They are early 40ish. Actually, I am about
35, but in a 58 year young body.)
Fortunately, there is more good news! Once you become
aware of the negative brain toxins, you can do something
about it.
What can you do? Just like you put good food and
supplements into your body, you can put good thoughts into
your mind.
To help you, I put together a list of 100 positive thoughts I
call “Mind Toners” and included them in “Thinking Yourself
Young”. You can get these and start thinking more positively
and living with more optimism today. Just go to
