Would you like to know the Truth about how the Bible became the Bible?

Perhaps no other book has the mystery, majesty and misunderstanding that the Bible has.  Taken literally by some (in spite of clear contradictions between different passages), avoided by some, and confusing to many, the Bible needs to be understood now more than ever.

Donald O’Dell, author of How the Bible Became the Bible joined me recently for an interview.

No matter what your religious beliefs, I think you will appreciate Don’s scholarly approach.  I learned a lot, even though I’ve studied the Bible and have read it cover to cover more than once (well, I skipped the begats after the first time!).

Don clears up many misperceptions and mis-interpretations.  In doing so, his love for Biblical history and the power of this fabulous collection shines through.  He makes it safe to explore, to question, and to personalize its story – he takes it out of dogmatic fundamentalistic and makes it accessible to anyone who really wants to know and live it more deeply.

Recipient, non-fiction category, Florida Writers Association 2006 Royal Palm Literary Award.
The Florida Writers Association ( www.floridawriters.net ) awarded, How the Bible became the Bible, the winner in the non-fiction category of the 2006 Royal Palm Literary Award contest.

Don got his formal theological training at Princeton Theological Seminary, served as a Presbyterian minister and then went on to become a businessman.  Along the way he had his own transformation and is a recovering alcoholic (25 years).

Although Don backs his book with scholarly research, this book is readable – written for the average person.  He puts it into both a historical and spiritual context for thought provoking reading for both the Christian and non-Christian.

Join us on this podcast as Don discusses:
·    His motivation for writing this book
·    The history of the Bible
·    Who wrote the Bible
·    How the Bible was compiled
·    The difference in using the Bible as a spiritual & moral guide and a literal instruction manual

Don says:  “I just want readers to wake up to the reality of the transforming love of God that can change their life. I believe there are far too many people whose faith is not really in the Love of God, that has transformed their lives. Their faith is in the Bible.”

His hope is that, no matter what one’s religious bent, that each one of us will “Be transformed. Learn that the universe is not an evil scary place, but a loving and supportive one.”
